Seattle Center's two headline attractions stand within sight of each other, and this combined ticket covers both on the same day — the Space Needle on a timed slot, Chihuly Garden and Glass whenever suits you around it.

At the Space Needle a 42-second lift ride puts you 520 feet up, over Seattle Center, Puget Sound and, on a clear day, the Olympics and Mount Rainier. The level below holds The Loupe — the world's only revolving glass floor — and the open-air deck above has the tilting glass walls and twenty-four angled glass benches that appear to hang over the city.

Chihuly Garden and Glass is the counterweight: eight dark galleries of Dale Chihuly's major series, a planted outdoor Garden where glass grows out of the beds, and the Glasshouse with its 100-foot suspended sculpture. A free smartphone audio guide, daily Gallery Talks and live glassblowing are all included.

Buying the two together is cheaper than two separate admissions, and it removes the one thing that catches people out — arriving at the Needle to find the next available slot is three hours away.

• Views from the Needle depend entirely on the weather — the glass floor and the architecture are worth the trip on a grey day, the mountains are not guaranteed
